From post colonial diasporas to the collapse of the Soviet bloc states and increasing globalization, the modern face of Europe is rapidly changing because of unprecedented migration from every corner of the world. Our 2011 Summer Institute explores the European experience of cultural difference, integration, assimilation, and the challenging problems and benefits that arise from being a world multi-cultural center. This Institute invites international researchers and scholars to work directly with K-16 educators on analyzing the impact of immigration on economy, trade, national security, ecology, and culture, using a wide range of European countries as examples. We will also be developing in-depth comparisons to the changing experience of immigration in the United States in order to make the content directly relevant for students in our schools. The Institute’s focus will be on developing ways to transform the content of this program into captivating classroom experiences and discussions for students of all ages. Join us this summer for the latest social studies content, ideas, and methodology on the European experience.
