Yale on YouTube

Did you miss Tony Blairs 2008 Commencement speech? Or would you like to learn more about the redesign of Paul Rudolphs iconic Art+Architecture building? Access to high quality videos of Yale events is now possible through the Yale on YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/yale. In response to the increasing demand for open access to Yale courses, lectures, guest speakers, and virtual tours, the University created a channel on YouTube where viewers can watch videos covering notable events. Launched mid-January 2009, The Yale on YouTube channel presents Open Yale Courses, Yale lectures, panels, and campus tours.

The Universitys decision to partner with YouTube is a component of a larger strategy of exploring new venues for dissemination of its digital collections. Sharing components of Yale’s intellectual wealth in popular destinations like YouTube enables a degree of access and visibility that was previously unimaginable. In addition, the ease of embedding YouTube videos in personal blogs and other web-based publications greatly facilitates the incorporation of Yale educational materials into external learning environments.

Visitor traffic on Yales YouTube channel has been significant since its early 2009 launch. Yale joins a growing number of universities with channels on YouTube, as well as many of the world’s major cultural and news organizations including National Geographic, the Museum of Modern Art, and the World Economic Forum.
