Global Youth in the Digital Age
The 2013 Summer Institute “Global Youth in the Digital Age” will focus on how technology is transforming educational practice and opportunity the world over. Using technology that was once unimaginable, youth around the world are engaged in civil society as advocates for their generation, mobilizing to effect change and create economic opportunity. These tools also enable cross cultural exchanges that open the world to a new generation of truly global citizens. The summer institute will explore the promises and pitfalls of these trends, and also provide practical tools for teachers who want to globalize their own classrooms through intercultural exchanges and international communication. more …

Echoes of Egypt: Conjuring the Land of the Pharaohs
The Echoes of Egypt: Conjuring the Land of the Pharaohs Summer Institute will take teachers on a journey through two thousand years of fascination with ancient Egypt, exploring the three main themes of the exhibit: hieroglyphs, mummy-mania, and Egyptosophy.  The seminars will focus on the basic principles of the hieroglyphic script, the meaning of mummification in ancient Egypt, and cover the fundamental features of ancient Egyptian religion. more …

American Histories: Indigenous Peoples and Europeans in the Americas
The second year of the Indigenous Cultures of the Americas Institute will explore Native American/European contact and the impact, both immediate and long term, on cultural, political and economic institutions of Indigenous and European peoples. The Institute will compare and contrast diverse experiences and engagements, including conflict, collaboration, and exchange of goods and ideas. The cultural diversity of indigenous peoples in the Americas before and after the arrival of Europeans will also be examined. The Institute is offered by the Peabody Museum of Natural History in conjunction with the Yale’s Programs in International Educational Resources (PIER) and Council for Latin American and Iberian Studies (CLAIS).  more …
